Device_art festival was initiated by the Croatian curatorial collective KONTEJNER in 2004 as an international platform dealing with technological devices, machines and robotics in contemporary art, exploring them as artistic medium through the intersection of different artistic scenes and international device art tendencies. Previous editions of the festival have featured artists from Slovenia (2004), California (2006), Japan (2009/2010), the Czech Republic (2012/2013), Canada (2015/2016), and Germany (2021), with an international edition curated by Chinese curator Zhang Ga (2018/2019) and a six months long exhibition at the world-renowned Ars Electronica Center in Linz, Austria (2014).
The 8th edition of the festival will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb from September 29 to October 27, 2026, with Korea designated as the guest country. It will be jointly curated by the curatorial team Vestige and KONTEJNER. Up to ten Korean and five Croatian artists will participate, presenting works based on installations, devices, and interfaces. In parallel, artist talks, academic symposia, performances and workshops will be organized to promote artistic and scholarly exchange between the two countries.
