When we encounter the unknown, we perceive its symptoms and attempt diagnoses—a process fundamental to how we come to understand and explore the world. Within this framework, art can be seen as a threefold entity: a symptom of the unknown, a diagnostic tool, and a medium of comprehension. Artists often perceive “symptoms” in phenomena that remain unnoticed, translating them into creative forms that offer audiences alternative ways of perceiving reality. Among the works presented, a striking quality is their capacity to move beyond traditional repres entation, becoming guides through our complex, interwoven world where the visible and invisible, the known and the unknown, coexist and resonate.

The roundtable brings together eight artists and members of the curatorial team of SYMPTOMATICA | HORIZON to discuss how science, as a foundation of artistic practice, generates new roles for artistic creation. It further considers how media philosophy can open new possibilities for emergent trajectories in contemporary art.

SYMPTOMATICA | FLUX marks the performative turn of the exhibition, delving into the entangled relationship between matter, sound, and perception. Here, sound functions as a diagnostic tool for the shifting symptoms of the present: a temporary crystallization of resonance, a flow of energy and particles. Through this flow, music transcends mere artistic expression, transforming into a sensory cartography of our contemporary condition, inscribed within the body itself.
